Abstract

Birth trauma is an increasingly prominent topic in obstetrics. Trauma and disappointment during childbirth often arises when women feel excluded from decision-making, feel unheard, or experience a lack of control over the process. While medical obstetrics operates with standardized procedures and guidelines, these often clash with the personal and individual needs of women. Studies show that although a birth plan can help women become more aware of their preferences, it does not necessarily improve communication or relationships with caregivers. Women in labor may still not feel more involved in decisions and generally report lower satisfaction with the attentiveness and support provided by midwives. A trauma-sensitive birth plan, however, can help parents create a welcoming and comforting atmosphere, laying the foundation for positive communication, openness, trust, and the fulfillment of their needs.
